HEAD START PROGRAM


SCAP Head Start is hosting our first Meet the Director breakfast at three of our Head Start facilities so that parents and other family members can meet and greet the Head Start staff in an informal and social setting. The schedule is as follows:

  • Bigelow Avenue Center  – 1/24/12, 9:00-11:00 a.m.
  • Bellevue Center  – 1/25/12, 9:00-11:00 a.m.
  • Yates Early Childhood Learning Center  – 1/26/12, 9:00-11:00 a.m.

Head Start is a comprehensive pre-school program for children 3 – 5 years old that enriches a child’s learning experiences and prepares them for kindergarten and continued success in school. Head Start’s curriculum focuses on the child’s educational, social and emotional needs and family support services embrace the philosophy that the parents are the most important and influential educator of their children. Services include; nutrition, health and mental health information, parent involvement opportunities and support services. 

Meals are provided on-site to children and limited transportation is available (see center specifics below).

Bigelow Avenue Head Start Center – eleven (11) classrooms with an integrated classroom for children with special needs.   The program’s Main Offices are located at 100 Bigelow Avenue. There are three (3) classrooms for 3 year olds and five (5) for four year olds that operate from 8:00 am – 5:00 pm to accommodate working parents.

Bellevue Head Start Center – four (4) classrooms operate from the Bellevue Reformed Church on Broadway. There are two (2) classrooms for 3 year olds and two (2) classrooms for 4year olds. Classrooms operate from 8:00 am – 3:30 pm.

Glen Worden School Head Start Center – one (1) classroom located in Scotia, NY.  This classroom operates as a combined 3 and 4 year old classroom and operates from 8:00 am – 3:30 pm.

Yates Early Childhood Learning Center Head Start - three (3) classrooms located in Van Vranken Avenue, Schenectady, NY.  Operates from 8:00 am - 3:30 pm.

Home-Base Services offers individualized instruction within the child's home and includes bi-weekly socialization for families to interact with other home-base families.

Head Start families must meet federal income guidelines. Please call 518-377-8539 for specific information or to obtain an application.
